Wiz Khalifa was arrested on drug charges Monday night in Greenville, North Carolina, where he had just performed at East Carolina University. Officers reportedly took the rapper into custody after searching his tour bus.
On Tuesday morning (November 9), a spokesperson for the Pitt County Detention Center confirmed that Khalifa (born Cameron Thomaz), 22, was booked into the jail at around 1:30 a.m. He posted $300,000 bail and was released from detention at around 8 a.m. ET.
The "Black and Yellow" rapper was charged with a felony count of trafficking in marijuana, a felony count of maintaining a dwelling/vehicle/place for sale or storage of marijuana and one misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Nine other people were arrested along with Khalifa on the same charges and were still in jail at press time.
Khalifa, who was named "Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010" and recently signed a multi-album deal with Atlantic Records, was appearing on the campus as part of his Waken Baken Tour 2010. He boasted in a recent interview about a $10,000-a-month weed habit and launched his own brand of rolling papers last month.
"Smoke outs Greeneville, nc tonight. Fall thru wit ur finest plant life," he tweeted, just hours before his arrest.
Pal Curren$y posted a video purported to show police searching the bus and taking Khalifa away in handcuffs as fans scream obscenities at them. He later tweeted, "They ran on lil bruh's bus ...... I'm finna smoke this telly down in his honor ...... that's them bull chips mann .... Legalize it."
At press time, a spokesperson for the ECU police and a spokesperson for Khalifa could not be reached for comment for details about the arrest.
