These days, gamblers have a wealth of choices when it comes to proposition bets at online sports books. The most popular prop bets not involving sports have surrounded celebrities in recent years. Bettors can gamble on anything from the next boyfriend of Paris Hilton, to which celebrity gets in to legal trouble next.
When celebrity couples hook up, it is common that some form of prop bet surrounds their relationship. For celebs as big as Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, the spotlight is always on, which is why when they were married, some sports books offered odds on how long they would stay together.
Sports books are usually geared towards short term bets, but in the case of the celebrity marriages, the odds go up for each year they are married. That is why when news broke Tuesday of Reynolds and Johansson calling it quits, some gamblers rejoiced while others kissed their money goodbye.
Officially, it is not yet known exactly how long the couple will be married until the divorce proceedings are over, but for all intensive purposes, the marriage lasted two years. The divorce will likely take place before the couple would have reached their third wedding anniversary.
For Reynolds, there will be no shortage of eligible ladies waiting to meet his acquaintance. Reynolds has recently been named the Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine. That is a title that will ensure the movie star has no problem getting a date to any future red carpet award shows.
Similarly, Johansson is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood by most people's accounts. Johansson reportedly is the one that made the decision to divorce, but a statement released Tuesday suggests that it was a friendly split that will not turn ugly. The couple does have several houses that will have to be divided up.
As for gamblers, they will now turn their attention to some upcoming reality shows. American idol starts shortly after the new year, and the singing show has become a favorite among online gamblers. Several dance competitions will also be starting in the beginning of 2011, with sports books releasing odds once the preliminary shows are complete.
