NYC based publisher Hearst is investing heavily in its suite of iPad apps, which include its magazines Cosmopolitan, Popular Mechanics and Esquire. The publisher is using rich media including audio, video and moving covers (such as the March issue of Esquire featuring Liam Neeson) along with differentiable items in each issue of the magazines such as the sketchbook application in Oprah Winfrey’s February O magazine. The apps are customizable with unique digital features such as the ability to “try on” makeup or upload photos.
